This is a scan of both sides of the promotion flyer that was to bring people back to Bensons Nightclub of Worthing.
Flickers Golden Oldies were Wednesday Night Residents for eight and a half, consecutive, years when the club first opened -It was then "BENSONS" and held a maximum of 250 people - A few years later it was then refrubished and renamed ILLUSIONS and now held about 500 people. A few years passed and yet another refurb and a rename. Now to be known as ILLUSIONS II and an increased capacity to hold a massive 1000 people.
The new Manager Kevin, thought it might boost the flagging door attendance by inviting us back to our favourite Club to perform our unique 50s, 60s, 70s show, on a once a month basis. Needless to say, it didn't work! BUT it might have had something to do with the fact that on the first night Phil spent all night informing everyone that we were back on every first Thursday of the month only to be told by Kevin (the Manager), at the end of the evening when everyone had left the club, that there was a private function on the first Thursday of the next month, so could we change it to the second Thursday just for that month!!!
We did the second Thursday and hardly anyone turned up. They had come on the previous Thursday and were not happy, so they quite rightly voted with their feet and it just went downhill from there. That was a shame because we loved the eight and a half years of Wednesday nights that we did at Bensons of Worthing and we know that we could have made a go of it if the Management had had the brains to back us up
A big thanks to Chris & Delia Chapman, the owners, and John & Chris McClaughlin, The Management, for employing us for so long in their various establishments Cloisters, Bensons and Illusions - but then we are very good at what we do......
