Phil started his professional career, more than twenty five years ago, as a Drummer/Vocalist in a trio called Twilight Sound. Working soley through The Les Osman Agency, they played a wide variety of music for Golf Society, Masonic, Navy & Army Base Dinner dances Etc. Over the years they worked at most of the top Hotels and Venues throughout the South of England.

After many, happy years with  Twilight Sound. Phil then changed direction, musically and gained further Professional experience playing the drums with various top Rock 'n' Roll & Country Bands. There are far too many to list all of them but here are a few that spring to mind. Please note that they are not in any order of preference as that would be impossible :-

  • "Brandy Pope & Sundown" - (Phil was the original drummer).
  • "The Midnight Ramblers"
  • "The Cody Nash Outfit"
23/01/03 - Have just been in contact, through Friends reunited, with the original Bass Guitarist, Roger Elwin, who is now living in Australia.
  • "Candlewick Express"
  • "Al Barretts Linesmen"
  • "Country Legend"
  • "Ed Nix & Busted"
  • "Cambell & Reid"
  • "White Lightning"
  • "Drews Brew"
  • "Cimmeron"

Playing the Drums with so many different bands enabled Phil to observe and learn the art of "reading an audience" and this is without doubt part of the reason why Flickers Golden Oldies are so well received by all.

Before she met Phil, Nikki had no experience whatsoever in the world of showbusiness (apart from the odd school play). To look at her now you would think she had been entertaining all of her life. Nikki, not only adds glamour, but her knowledge of music from the 40, 50's, 60's and 70's makes her a valuable member of the outfit.

Flickers Golden Oldies use no flashing lights and do not play music from the current charts! they have found, from experience, a combination of Golden Oldies (70's, 60's, 50's, & 40's), Strict Tempo, Country, Sing-a-long and Party music ensures an evening of enjoyment for most people.

They are in fact, being re-booked time and time again because they will NOT play the thump thump thump type of music usually associated with discos.

Flickers Golden Oldies had a residency at, what was Worthing's TOP night spot, BENSON / ILLUSIONS, where they entertained a mixed audience for eight and a half years of consecutive Wednesday nights with their unique 50's 60's and 70's show.

Flickers Golden Oldies firdt appeared at Butlins South Coast World (Bognor), in October 1988 at the - LARGEST 60's Festival in the world. where they shared the stage with such acts as The Platters, The Supremes, The Troggs, Mud, Edwin Starr, The Tremeloes, The Searchers, The Fortunes, Hermans Hermits, Marty Wilde, Craig Douglas, Don Lang, Vanity Fare, Edison Lighthouse, Marmalade, Love Affair, The Mersey Beats, Ricky Valance, Dave Dee, Susan Maughan, Alan Price, The Nashville Teens, Tommy Bruce, Billie Davis, The Tornados, Brian Poole, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Rockin' Berries, Mike Berry, Dave Berry + many many more.

Flickers Golden Oldies were back at Butlins in March 1991 for yet another new venture in the shape of a forties music weekend which was so successful that it was extended to the full week and then made an annual event featuring, among others, such acts as Rosemary Squires, The Beverley Sisters, Alan Randall, Ruby Murray, The R.A.F. Band, The 1st Battalion The Irish Rangers, Eric Delaney, Dennis Lotus, Harry Bence and the New Squadronaires, Blitz, Flying Colours and of course Flickers Golden Oldies, who both entertained and compéred the event.

Flickers Golden Oldies have returned as entertainers many times since then, mainly at the "YOURS LIVE" festivals and other dates whenever the specialised type of entertainment that they provide is required - Flickers Golden Oldies next Butlins gig is on February 12th 2005 in "The Reds" working with the 19 piece Cooper Big Band...

Dinner Suits are the normal attire during their act except for themed events where authentic period stage wear is worn. i.e. Uniforms for 1940's events, Teddy Boy Drape Coat and Drainpipe Trousers for 1950's events, etc. etc.

What a lovely couple of entertainers these two people are..

Phil & Nikki.
